Her Turn: An Intergenerational Dialogue on Climate

Share

Following New York Climate Week and the GWL Voices–CIPÓ event “No Implementation Without Equality,” GWL Voices brought students from the Columbia Climate School and emerging leaders into a conversation on climate, leadership and the future of multilateralism.

The first Her Turn Intergenerational Dialogue on Climate created space for students to share their reflections on how climate change is being addressed today, what is working, what is missing, and what they believe needs to change from a youth perspective.

The conversation also moved beyond policy. Students openly shared questions and concerns about building a career in the climate and multilateral space, and had the opportunity to exchange perspectives from GWL Voices member Flavia Bustreo and Executive Director (a.i.) Cristina Gallach.

Both encouraged students to hold their heads high as they continue working to address the climate crisis, and to trust their preparedness as they enter rooms where they may be the only women, or the youngest. They also highlighted the importance of continuing to work on climate, while building and strengthening networks that can sustain progress and open new paths within the multilateral system.

For GWL Voices, intergenerational dialogue is not simply about inviting young people to the table. It is about ensuring they can help shape the table, bringing new ideas, challenging established approaches, and contributing to more inclusive and effective solutions.

Those studying and preparing to work on these issues today have perspectives that matter to the future of climate action. Their voices should not be an afterthought. They are part of how we build what comes next.
