Young People Speak Up for the Future of the UN: “It’s Her Turn” Campaign

Share

As the selection of the next UN Secretary-General moves forward, young people around the world are making sure their voices are part of the conversation.

Through the youth-led campaign It’s Her Turn, young people with the support of GNWP and GWL Voices are inviting their peers to write to their governments, explaining why this moment matters to them and calling for women’s leadership at the United Nations.

Their message goes beyond who will occupy one position. It is about the kind of United Nations they hope to inherit, and the kind of multilateralism they want to help build.

The initiative is a reminder that the next generation has a real stake in the leadership and future of the multilateral system, and that young people are ready to engage with it.

What Can You Do?

Taking part is simple: write to your government and help make youth voices visible in the selection process.

1. Write your letter

Jenn Hernandez and Léa Tricaud have developed a sample letter that you can use as a starting point.

You do not need to copy it word for word. Adapt the letter to your own voice, your country and the issues that matter to you.

Once your letter is ready, use the government directory to find the appropriate contact and information for sending it to your government.

2. Send your letter

Once you have adapted your letter, send it to the relevant government representative or institution in your country.

The directory will help you identify where and how to send your letter.

Join the youth and send your letter.
