Share

GWL Voices is proud to announce the participation of Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa, Executive Director of GWL Voices and former President of the UN General Assembly, in the Local Leaders Dialogue on Climate Justice — Road to COP30.

Hosted in the framework of the Local Leaders Forum ahead of COP30, this high-level meeting convenes mayors, municipal associations, regional networks, international partners, and civil society to advance a shared vision of climate justice rooted in local leadership.

Local governments are on the frontlines of the climate crisis — delivering real solutions that protect people, advance equity, and strengthen resilience. Yet, their voices remain underrepresented in global decision-making spaces. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa will join leaders from across Latin America and beyond to: advocate for stronger financing and political support for gender-responsive, locally-driven climate transitions; promote women’s leadership as essential to transforming ambition into action; and strengthen regional coordination and alliances on the road to COP30 in Belém.

The dialogue is organized by Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Local Government Associations (FLACMA) and the Brazilian Association of Municipalities (ABM); Wwth the support of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Mercociudades, and Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM). It will contribute directly to joint preparations for a strong local leadership presence and a united call for climate justice at COP30.

GWL Voices looks forward to reinforcing women’s voices and feminist leadership as a driving force for bold climate action — from Rio to Belém.
