Epsy Campbell

Epsy Campbell Barr is a global leader in inclusion, development, human rights, and sustainability, and she was Vice President of Costa Rica from 2018 to 2022.

In 2018, she was elected as Vice President of the Republic of Costa Rica, being the first Afro-descendant to reach that position and the first woman to be appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship. She was also twice elected as a congresswoman of the Republic of Costa Rica, from 2002 to 2006 and from 2014 to 2018. She is a researcher and lecturer, an economist with Honorary Doctorates in Humanities from Brenau University Georgia (USA) and Howard University Washington DC (USA), a Master's in International Cooperation for Development, and another Master's in Political Management. She is an expert and consultant on issues of development, inclusion, political and economic empowerment of women, Afro-descendant communities, and sustainability. She is an Independent Expert of the United Nations and a promoter of business and employment opportunities in new technologies and cybersecurity for people from historically marginalized sectors.

From 2021 to 2024, she was the president of the United Nations Permanent Forum of Afrodescendants. It was a space promoted by the Government of Costa Rica during her period as the Vice President of Costa Rica, 2018-2022. As an international activist, he founded the Global Coalition Against Systemic Racism and for Reparations, a large international organization that develops actions in countries to combat racism through art, culture, and education.
