Women in Multilateralism 2025

Share

The latest Women in Multilateralism 2025 report by GWL Voices reveals the persistent gender gap in international leadership, despite decades of advocacy and commitments to equality.

Among the report’s findings:

πŸ“Œ Only 7% of the more than 2,800 permanent representatives to the UN since 1947 have been women.

πŸ“Œ 73 countries have never appointed a female ambassador to the UN, and 64 have done so only once.

πŸ“Œ In 2024, only 21% of UN permanent representatives were women.

πŸ“Œ 20 General Assemblies have taken place without the participation of a single female permanent representative.

πŸ“Œ 19 major international organizations have never had a woman in the top leadership role.

As the world heads toward critical elections in 2025 and the selection of the next UN Secretary-General in 2026, now is the time to act.
